Mastering Time Since 1884

Breitling - Brad Pitt

The history behind Breitling is special. Leon Breitling had no plans to make watches when he founded the factory in 1884. He made chronographs and stopwatches. The Breitling factory is still, together with Patek Philippe and Rolex among the few Swiss watch manufacturers that have managed to maintain their independence.

Breitling was founded by Leon Breitling in 1884 as a watchmaker’s workshop specializing in the production of chronographs and precision instruments for scientific purposes, and this distinguished legacy is still the basis for Breitling’s further watchmaking.

Breitling is the only major watchmaker in Switzerland to have all of their watches subjected to an external chronometer test by the independent institute C.O.S.C. (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) before the watches are allowed to leave the workshops.

Only 3% of all watches made in Switzerland meet’s the same Quality testing.

Breitling watches are first carefully examined to ensure that their technical, dimensional and aesthetic aspects live up to the brand’s standards. Only 3% of all watches made in Switzerland consist of C.O.S.C. chronometer testing which illuminates Breitling’s inevitably high quality requirements for their craft for timepieces.

Breitling nowadays still has a deep respect for the company’s original values, the art of being able to create precise and reliable instruments for professional use.

Breitling is one of the strongest and most recognized Swiss prestige brands ever. From being a preferred choice among pilots and customers with an interest in more special watches, Breitling has changed to now appeal to anyone with a sense of accomplished quality and the necessary economy.

The company’s eye for detail is illuminated for everyone when attention falls on the design and the hand-assembled links that are among the very best on the market. The details add an extra and appreciated dimension to the clockwork craftsmanship. Both men and women consider the timepieces as a piece of jewellery.

There are watches with over 1,000 moving parts. At Breitling, however, the brand pays tribute to its historical connection to the aviation industry. This is about maximizing precision while minimizing the risk of errors. The fewer parts, the less risk.
